Not Good….

Today, Andre Johnson, former All-Pro wideout for the Houston Texans, signed a 3-year, $21 million deal with the Indianapolis Colts.

I am a Tennessee Titans fan (stop chuckling!) and this is not what I wanted to hear today. Not only will the Titans defense have to continue to deal with Andrew Luck and T.Y. Hilton but they’ll now be forced to stop Johnson and newly signed running back, Frank Gore.

These blockbuster deals have most definitely vaulted Indy to the top of the AFC, if not the entire NFL.

Not good for the 29th ranked scoring defense of the Titans.

So, instead of sitting quietly in the background, can we please nab Marcus Mariota in April’s draft?

What can we, as writers, photographers, artists, and bloggers learn from American inventor Thomas Alva Edison? Plenty, as it turns out. Edison is famous for many inventions, including the phonograph, a commercially viable lightbulb, and the motion picture camera.

His success resulted from trial and error, and many, many failed experiments before creating a lightbulb that could last 1200 hours, just as an example. He could have stopped. He could have given up. He chose to frame his work in a positive light:

“I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”

Edison’s philosophy is particularly compelling to anyone who does creative work:

Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety nine percent perspiration.

How many rough drafts, spoiled drawings, and blurry photos have you created before that stroke of serendipity? Are you looking at a…

It’s Finally Here!

After a four month wait it’s finally here.

Every year I have to endure four months of tumultuous torture. Those are months that I dread even though I know they’re coming.

Months like a brick wall that won’t budge or crumble.

Months that make my skin turn the ugliest color of grey on its worst day.

Months that make my attitude resemble that of a 15 year old girl.

But now, for eight months I get wonderful relief. My skin returns to its normal hue and my attitude again resembles that of the manliest macho man. I get to do things after work, I can play outside with my daughter in the evenings, and the days are much, much longer.

If you can’t tell, I’m happy these months have arrived!!

It’s Daylight Savings Time!!!!

I might offend some people but, in my book, the day DST begins is up there with Thanksgiving, Fourth of July, and Christmas as one of the best days of the year.
